Part-1 Tribute to my engineering student life

As my engineering student life ending, I thought of preserving memories of this life through a series of blog post.  With these blog posts I want to make these memories timeless. So here is my attempt to preserve important part of these memories. I am going to start with a ’101 things to do or not to do at ECB’ These things would be guide to all students coming to ECB, I am going to write first few things in this post and will continue them in the coming posts,

’101 things to do or not to do at ECB’

1. Forget your past, its a new beginning. Remember you are lucky enough to get here, you will realize it later.
2. Because you are in western Rajasthan, get used to love sand and dust, adjust into worst weather conditions, the sooner you adjust yourself the better it is for you. Drink lots of water daily.  You will need to make extra efforts to get a decent life style.
3. Your first semester will decide your engineering life in terms of marks and perks given by teacher, whether you like it or not.  Upper bound of your marks is set in this semester. So don’t take it lightly, remember 60% of the marks constitute internal exams and practicals.
4. Make sure teachers know you for good things, keep all your fun out of the class for starting few months.
5. Make sure you make decent attendance in class, don’t rely too much on proxy and remember you will not get to attend many classes in coming years, so do attend classes in first year, it will help you till final year.
6. Utilize off college hours to maximum, computer labs are the best place to hang out, the more you spend your time exploring new things, the more good it is for you.
7. Give due respect to your teachers, even if you know that they are not worth it, learn to be low profile in front of them, but don’t loose your dignity.
8. Forget that you will learn anything in classes or labs, don’t even think of getting any inspiration or motivation from your teachers, the internet and your seniors are your only hope.
9. Hostels are the best place to live in  for the first two year of engineering, you will get to make good friends and a decent internet connection and ofcourse it is the place where you will get all information regarding lab notes, assignments, etc don’t opt for living outside atleast for first year.
10. Make as much friends as possible. Try to look for good things of others, you will find something good in everyone. Trust me, these friends will be helpful in the whole life.
11. Read books, novels, biographies, stories, new papers spend your time learning about people,  life, world, create your opinions about things, people, though you will not get any such books in college libraries, but you can buy them or get them from seniors, friends or teachers.
12. Spend your evenings discussing with friends, hostel terrace is the best place for it. Learn to be social, remember to be a sensible person in hostels as well, though don’t miss all the fun.
13. You can always save some money from your pocket money to get some good clothes for yourself even you don’t get enough money. Take extra care about your look and dressing sense, get it into habit. Don’t wear same tshirt everyday in hostel, or you will be called by name ‘pili shirt wala’ Seriously, if you give it a try you can make a decent wardrobe for yourself. No one will tell you anything regarding your look but they do notice. Instead of regretting later in life, take care of it now.
14. Be a spectator of hostel dramas, but dont get involved too much. These things will be regular there. Don’t get disturbed by them or you will never get time for yourself. Learn the art of saying no.
15. Take bath daily, deodorants are good but nothing can beat a good bath.
16. Not much recreational activities are available in hostels, you have to look for them some where else, medical college, railway ground , sardul sports club are good places , make a routine of playing some game, if you dont have. Though it is not a culture here, but if you try you can manage.
17.  Don’t get impressed by anyone in first chance, give them one more chance to impress you, most of the time people show off what they are actually not and the same rule applies to you as well.
18. Get your files/ assignments get checked on time anyhow, this is one small sacrifice for keeping your life easier, teachers like files like nothing else. They don’t care about your other things or virtues so dont get disturbed by this.
19. You will always find 2-3 persons in your hostel and batc  who will always try to dominate everyone, just ignore them
20. In the coming four years, people are going to change a lot, let them

I will continue this list in coming posts, comment on anything you find missing or anything else.

Along with these 101 things I am going to share short stories from my engineering life, not necessary in chronological order, they are random bits striking mind when I look back.  We had this worst room in hostel, for the three starting three months, we were 4 people in a small room, me, manu, arun and puneet, i had most amazing time of my life in that small room, there were two beds in room, and one was occupied by manu totally :D and rest three of us were left with one bed.  When manu first came to our room, we found him very strange , kind of an alien, we were all from small cities and manu was from udaipur, so we were kind of disliking him, but gradually manu begin to get into us, that was pure fun.

Later we got a new room, Manu become my room partner, which he is till now. We had this worst room in the hostel, which we actually chose assuming to be the best, but our decision proved wrong. It always used to be dark in that room, with no direct sunlight coming, or even air coming and the bathroom had no good mechanism for basic need :D The view outside the window was huge desert and in the summers it became the passage for sand and storm to get into our room. It was horrible. And the best part of all this was our neighbour. He was my classmate. The guy was pathetically boring and he loved to be sad for nothing but everything.  He always starts his conversation with a deep breath, and sigh.  And on top of it, he was in some kind of deep love with a girl from our class. If that is not funny enough, he had these huge posters in his room with all those love quotes written on them. From the window of his room, we could see our college main building. He used to stare the college building from there for hours. The guy always blamed that girl for all the misery in his life and to my wonder he never ever talked to her. The tradegy was the guy had a terrible look and girl was smart enough. I don’t know why he used to bore us with his love stories from childhood to college and none worked, I can understand though why they didnt.

I will come up with many more stories from my engineering life in the coming post.
